After working as an overnight supervisor at an assisted living facility for the elderly, Meadow Hartwell knew she needed a change. She applied to work as a Residential Counselor in Spaulding Youth Center's Young House in 2008. After her time observing the students there, she knew it was a perfect fit. Meadow spent three years as a Residential Counselor before beginning her role as a Family Worker in 2011. In 2013, she made the difficult decision to step away from her position in order to spend time at home with her two young children. Still, she maintained a strong connection to the staff and students at Spaulding Youth Center.Read More

Pat Seaward-Salvati is what some may consider a lifer, but that is no sentence to this dedicated human services advocate. Even before graduating from Penn State in 1977, Pat worked with the Boys & Girls Club in Philadelphia and knew he was destined to support the needs of kids and families. Since then, he has earned extensive experience working with youth and adults, developing early intervention and behavioral programs for youth, managing court diversion programs, and providing counseling, consulting, and training to individuals, families and educational representatives. Most recently, Pat developed and implemented the Spaulding Youth Center Community-Based ISO Foster Care Program, which he also directed until April 2014. Pat's current focus is as Admissions Director, managing all inbound referral requests and admissions outreach to School Administrative Unit (SAU) representatives and state agencies.Read More

Some of the greatest stories in history started with a random event which lead to significant outcomes. The story behind Spaulding Youth Center’s longest-tenured employee began just this way. Lori Surowiec was assigned to Spaulding Youth Center as part of a work study program in high school. Following this work study at the tender age of 18, she was hired full-time as a program treatment secretary. She dedicated 28 years to this instrumental role. In 2001, Lori was promoted to Executive Secretary, where she continues to provide support today.Read More
After returning from active duty in Iraq and then spending a few years as a correctional officer, Jason Perkins started at Spaulding Youth Center in 2010 as a Residential Assistant in Cutter-Wiggins. Since then, his work ethic and accountability has enabled him to transition into an overnight role.Read More
