Spaulding Youth Center staff receives commendation from Governor John Lynch

December 05, 2012

Spaulding Youth Center was honored to host The Honorable Governor John Lynch and five Executive Councilors for their public meeting in September. Meeting participants and the public were warmly welcomed by several student greeters and the Governor and Councilors were each given a beautifully wrapped zucchini loaf made by the students in Spaulding’s LEAP (Life Education Advancement Pathway) program. Teachers Gina O’Leary and Dan Lader and two of their students presented a program during breakfast about life at Spaulding.

The council meeting was held in Spaulding’s newly renovated Community Center where former Spaulding teacher Reverend Carol Snow-Asher opened the meeting with a prayer. Students in Denise Luneau’s classroom entertained the crowd by singing The Grand Old Flag and presented the Governor and councilors each with a framed flag made by students.

Among the honors and commendations, Lori Surowiec and Gary Lavallee, two employees who have worked at Spaulding the longest, 37 years and 35 years respectively, accepted on behalf of the staff at Spaulding, an official commendation from Governor Lynch which commended “the staff of Spaulding Youth Center for their commitment to their community and state.”

Spaulding Youth Center CEO and President commented, “Hosting the Governor and Executive Councilors’ meeting is such an honor for the Spaulding Community. We welcome the opportunity to introduce our students, boast about our extremely talented staff and expand awareness of our new school, newly renovated community center and our spectacular campus.”
